No Name Woman
The main theme in this poem is culture. Everything that happens in this story relates back to the Chinese (where the story takes place) culture and what is accepted in society and what is not accepted in society. The woman, in the end decides to kill her baby because of the no name issue and all that deals with culture.
How to date a Halfie...
The main theme in this poem is stereotypes. This boy, thinks he knows everything about every different kind of girl. Whether it be skin color, background, ethnic race, he thinks he knows it all. I think all of these people come from the same type of town. A smaller, not very wealthy town in a big city. Everything this boy says I believe to be stereotypical because the things he said are not neccesarily true about each of the different girls.

I agree with you about the theme of no name woman. It is intersting because the Chinese culture of that time had similarities and differences with American culture.
I thought the theme had a lot to do with culture. I added that I thought it was specifially about the collectivist culture and how the narrator's views changed once she was outside of that kind of culture.
I chose the same theme for this story. I think the stereotypes are the only things he really bases his comments on. His "knowledge" of these girls as well as their actions are also connected to these stereotypes.
